MSU Merit Scholarship

History of the Award

The MSU Merit Scholarship Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding and valuable service to university, student, or residence governments, departments, clubs, societies, charities, or athletics. Recipients of the award receive a $500 scholarship in one of two categories: single-year contribution, or overall achievement. Each candidate is only eligible to receive the award once in each category, and no candidate may receive an award in both categories in the same year.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a candidate must hold MSU membership (i.e. enrolment in at least eighteen (18) units of undergraduate study) and must not be in the final year of his or her academic programme.

Instructions

Old nomination forms are available here.

When nominations open, please attach a description of the candidate of no more than one (1) page in length explaining why he or she is a competitive candidate to receive the MSU Merit Scholarship Award (i.e. what he or she has accomplished, not merely offices held). You should also obtain from the nominee a summary of no more than three (3) pages outlining the specific details of dates, organizations, and positions held by him or her as an MSU member in reverse chronological order. The selection committee may, at its discretion, request a third party contact to corroborate the biographical information.
