COPE: A Student Mental Health Initiative

  • 2014-2015 & 2011-2012 MSU Club of the Year Winner

COPE's mission is as follows: 1) to organize awareness events 2) to support mental health related organizations through fundraising initiatives 3) to educate and support students at McMaster and members of the Hamilton community 4) to engage McMaster students and provide opportunities to get involved with mental health issues in their community

We offer various ways to get involved with us, so there's something for everyone!

  1. Our Subcommittee helps us plan, promote, and run events. They are directly involved in the planning process, and play a large role in shaping COPE as a club.
  2. The Indwell Volunteering Program allows members to directly affect the lives of those living with mental illness by attending biweekly shifts at Indwell, a housing complex for people with disabilities. Tasks include meal preparation, talking to residents, and recreational activities.
  3. Members of our Knowledge Translation Committee read scientific literature on mental health and mental illness. The committee's discussions then become blog posts that talk about the literature in accessible language. This committee is largely responsible for our educational programming.
