A Quarter Century of the Hubble Space Telescope and Beyond

McCallion Planetarium (BSB B149)
November 15, 2017 from 08:15PM until 09:15PM

Since April 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope has been orbiting 550 km above our planet diligently and precisely peering into the cosmos. Join us as we follow the story of the Hubble Space Telescope from its launch from Earth through many of its immense contributions to scientific discovery. We will start "small" by looking at how the telescope has provided new views of our own solar system, then extend out to the wonders of various objects it has stared at within our Milky Way galaxy and finally enjoy the unprecedented views it has offered of other galaxies throughout the universe. We will discuss the life of Hubble thus far, the end of its mission, and the plans for the next generation in space-based telescopes focusing on the James Webb Space Telescope.

McMaster’s McCallion Planetarium is located in the basement of the Burke Science Building (BSB).
Tickets are $7 per person and may be available at the door, but cannot be guaranteed so we strongly recommend making reservations.
