Plans for the Year
First of all, to our returning McMaster students, welcome back to Mac! To our new students, welcome to the family. Your next few years here will be some of the most simultaneously challenging and rewarding experiences of your life. You will be challenged both inside the classroom and out, luckily the McMaster Students Union is here to help.
The MSU offers a variety of student services to help you save money and get value for the dollars you contribute to our organization. At TwelvEighty, our campus bar & grill- we have by far the best value for drinks and food both on campus and in the surrounding community. Union Market is available for all of your snacking needs, we have fresh bagels delivered daily and some of the coolest flavours of coffee for a great value (In addition to our claim to fame of having the cheapest chocolate milk on campus). Underground Media + Design is where you can print your papers and assignments before class and MSU Compass is where you can fill up our presto card or by tickets to your favorite events. Speaking of events, our Campus Events department runs some of the largest events in the post-secondary sector, including concerts, speakers and our annual charity ball. We have a variety of important peer support services including the Peer Support Line a confidential phone line, the Queer Students Community Centre, the Women and Gender Equity Network, MSU Maccess our new accessibility focused service and the Student Health Education Centre. Whatever you need - the MSU has your back.
If I were to give you one piece of advice for the year it would be to take risks, challenge yourself and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. It only takes 30 seconds of immense bravery to ask someone you've never met before about their McMaster story. Who knows, maybe you'll make a friend for life. Get involved, find your passion and don't be afraid to try something new. If plan (A) doesn't work, there are still 25 more letters in the alphabet to choose from!
If there is anything I can do to make your experience better on this campus, feel free to give me a shout or visit me in my office in MUSC 201. I have an open door policy and will always be happy to chat. Ultimately, we work for you and this is no other job I would be more excited to have.
Welcome home and get excited for an incredible year to come.
