The FCC and SHEC collaborate to offer free health supplies through Lockers of Love

The MSU Food Collective Centre (FCC) and the MSU Student Health Education Centre (SHEC) are collaborating to expand the variety of items available for online order through the FCC’s Lockers of Love program. The program will now offer partners free health supplies such as safe(r) sex items and pregnancy tests, in addition to its existing provision of non-perishable foods and hygiene products.
Through Lockers of Love, community members can order these items online at the program’s website, and pick them up from a locker on campus within two days. The program is anonymous and confidential; partners are identified only by a unique ID code so that they can place an order without disclosing a McMaster-affiliated email address, full name, or student number. The service is open to everyone, including students, alumni, staff, and Hamilton community partners.
“Providing students with a way to anonymously access health supplies without coming into our space is something SHEC service users have been asking for,” says Lynaea Filbey, SHEC Coordinator. “While we do our best to make SHEC as accessible as possible, we acknowledge that it’s not safe or possible for everyone to come into our physical space. By providing health supplies through Lockers of Love, we are able to service more of the McMaster community.”
The director of the FCC, Oliver Chow, echoed this sentiment, adding that "the founding principle of Lockers of Love is person-centred support. We want to meet our partners at their level of comfort by providing the option of anonymity. We hope this makes accessing health- and food-support more approachable for folks in our community."
All items available through the anonymous Lockers of Love program will be available within the FCC’s on-campus food bank, located in the basement of Bridges Café. SHEC will also continue providing free health supplies and other health-related services from its space in MUSC 202.
