November 4, 2019 at 09:00 am
The MSU Student Walk Home Attendant Team (SWHAT) is proudly supporting Food4Kids during their biannual Walk-a-thon this November. Students can support both SWHAT and Food4Kids by getting a walk from SWHAT volunteers this month, as one dollar will be donated to Food4Kids for every walk during November.
Food4Kids is a charity located within the Hamilton and Halton region whose mission is to provide healthy food to elementary school students from at-risk, low-income, or disadvantaged homes with limited or no access to food during weekends or throughout the summer. Moreover, Food4Kids aims to reduce the barriers to accessing healthy food, which can impact immediate, short- and long-term developmental outcomes for children and youth.
Students can request a walk anytime from 7 PM - 1 AM, seven days a week, from September to April. Walks can be requested by calling (905) 525 9140 ext. 27500, visiting the SWHAT office in MUSC 234, or by filling out an online walk form at msumcmaster.ca/swhat.
SWHAT is a volunteer service within the MSU that will walk or bus with students during the evening hours, every day of the week. Regardless of the weather, SWHAT walkers will walk to destinations on and surrounding campus. Students who request a walk will be joined by team of two walkers who are equipped with a flashlight and radio to allow for communication with the SWHAT office and McMaster Security, as required.
