The 2020 MSU Presidential Election & HSR Referendum

The campaign period for the 2020 MSU Presidential Election has officially begun, lasting until January 30, 2020. Every three years, the MSU, McMaster University, and the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) negotiate a new bus pass agreement. This year, the MSU Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) Bus Pass Referendum is happening concurrently with the MSU Presidential Election. Online voting for both the election and referendum will take place from January 28 - 30, 2020, closing on 5PM on the last day.
The 2020 MSU presidential candidates are:
· Giancarlo Da-Ré
· Krystina Koc
· Jackson Tarlin

Students can get to know the candidates at the MSU Presidential Candidate Meet & Greet at TwelvEighty on January 21 from 6:00 - 8:00PM. This event is an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates with the goal of making an informed vote. There will be free food available for those in attendance. In addition, the Presidential Debate will occur on January 23 from 3:00 - 5:00PM in MUSC Atrium, where students can see the candidates discuss pertinent topics live.
Currently, McMaster students receive a 12-month bus pass with expanded route 51-University service. In effect, the referendum ballot will ask students to rank the following options:
· An 8-month bus pass
· An 8-month bus pass with expanded route 51-University service
· A 12-month bus pass
· A 12-month bus pass with expanded route 51-University service
· No bus pass at all

When the voting period commences, students can vote by logging in with their MAC ID at www.msumcmaster.ca/vote. The election and referendum both use a preferential ballot, where voters rank candidates or options by order of preference, selecting as many or as few as they wish.
