MSU Mitten Tree: Give the Gift of Warmth this Season

November 26, 2014 at 14:12 pm

During the holidays, people are often encouraged to give back in various ways; either through monetary donations, volunteering, or giving non-perishable items to food banks. A simple way students can partake in the holiday spirit is by donating new or gently used winter clothing to the McMaster Students Union (MSU) Mitten Tree.

This initiative, organized by Victoria Scott, MSU Administrative Assistant, can be found in the lobby of the MSU office, MUSC 201. Everyone who is willing to donate hats, mittens, and scarves, are able to do so by hanging them on the Christmas tree. Donations will be accepted until 5:00 PM on December 19. Items can be new (preferred) or gently used, provided the items are clean and in proper working order.

All items donated will benefit Wesley Urban Ministries' annual Christmas Store, a no-cost Christmas assistance program. Last year, 5, 428 individuals, including 2,607 children, shopped at the store using a point system that promotes respect and dignity as a part of Wesley's Vision.

All donations can be made inside the MSU Main Office, MUSC 201, open Monday-Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM.
