Part-time wage grid changes effective January 2018

Recently, the Ontario legislature passed the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which included an increase to Ontario’s General minimum wage to $14 per hour in 2018, with another increase to $15 per hour in 2019. As of January 1, 2018 a new wage grid for part-time staff within the McMaster Students Union will come into effect.

MSU Audited Statements for fiscal year 2016-2017

The 2016/2017 audit reflects an MSU that is in a healthy fiscal state. There is a sturdy reserve in the operating fund. The MSU’s operating fund produced a surplus of $115 000, which represents 4% of the operating budget. Across the entire organization, including the operating fund, along with the health & dental funds, the MSU produced a surplus of $805,981 for the year. This number translates to 6% of the overall budget.

TechLit week: November 13 - 17

This year, the MSU is hosting a technology literacy week, TechLit, to assist students with technology-related problems. Throughout the week, there will be informative workshops, electronics recycling drop-offs, opportunities to troubleshoot problems with experts, as well as giveaways, contests, and discounts.

MSU offers Student Assistance Program, includes free psychological counselling and academic-life services

The MSU Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a benefit offered to all McMaster students, as well as their parents and roommates. The two main services are psychological counselling and academic-life services. SAP is available to all McMaster undergradautes, regardless of whether or not a student opted-out of either the MSU health and/or dental insurance plans.

MSU Open House: October 30 - November 2

Throughout the week, students can learn about ongoing projects and financial details, whilst having the opportunity to share personal perspectives on student issues.

Engagement opportunities with the Student Representative Assembly

The Student Representative Assembly (SRA) is the governing body of the MSU. Students are encouraged to attend SRA meetings, which are held biweekly on Sundays at 5:00 PM in Council Chambers (Gilmour Hall 111). The meeting schedule can be accessed here. One can also stay up to date by watching the live stream of the meetings
