MSU Meets with Ontario NDP Leader

Andrea Horwath, Leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party and MPP for Hamilton Centre, met with members of the MSU`s Board of Directors to discuss the financial needs of McMaster students, as well as post-secondary educational policy. The MSU made several recommendations to the leader of the NDP, notably in the areas of student debt and youth (un)employment.

Audited Statements of the MSU - Fiscal 2012/2013

Each year, the MSU is audited by an external professional auditing firm (KPMG LLP) to ensure and maintain a high level of fiscal accountability and present accurate, transparent documents for release to students and the wider public.  As an organization, the MSU generated a surplus of $369,707 for fiscal year 2012-2013. With total expenditures of $12,235,578 this figure represents 3% of the annual operating budget.

Mac's Fall Break set for October 31 - November 2

Lecture halls are going to be very quiet come Halloween, as McMaster's schedule incorporates a three-day break from classes and midterms for the first time ever, thanks to the McMaster Students Union. In the 2012-2013 school year, the MSU advocated for a fall break based on overwhelming student demand. Fall break will include a two day break from classes - October  31 and November 1 - along with an assignment / test ban on Saturday, November 2.

MSU Seeking OUSA General Assembly Delegates

The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) will be hosting its biannual General Assembly (GA) from October 31st – November 3rd at Western University. The MSU, as a member of OUSA, will be sending eight student delegates to Fall General Assembly in London. Applications to attend OUSA GA are available here.

Leadership Summit for Women

Registration for the Leadership Summit for Women 2013 is now open. The Summit will feature keynote speakers Kim Crosby, an anti-racism activist and multi-disciplinary educator, and Kathleen Wynne, Ontario’s first female premiere.  The event will take place in MUSC on October 19th - registration is available here.
