MSU presidential appeals meetings results in additional disqualification

Upon appeal, the Elections Committee has reconsidered evidence against the campaign of Ikram Farah. Consequently, Ms. Farah has been disqualified from the 2018 MSU presidential election.  In addition, the Elections Committee has upheld its election night decision to disqualify Rabeena Obaidullah.  As a result, Muhammed Aydin is president-elect of the McMaster Students Union. Results remain unofficial at this time and remain subject to further appeal.

The MSU’s pre-budget submission to the City of Hamilton includes the priorities of transit, housing and student employment

From now until April, Hamilton City Councillors will be debating what is included and excluded from the City budget. The MSU is taking advantage of this opportunity, lobbying for student interests to be reflected in the budget for 2018-2019.

Ikram Farah is president-elect of the McMaster Students Union

The votes are in and the results have been ratified by the Elections Committee. Ikram Farah won the 2018 MSU Presidential election and is President-elect of the McMaster Students Union. The President takes office on May 1, 2018 but will begin the transition process in the coming weeks.

Part-time wage grid changes effective January 2018

Recently, the Ontario legislature passed the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which included an increase to Ontario’s General minimum wage to $14 per hour in 2018, with another increase to $15 per hour in 2019. As of January 1, 2018 a new wage grid for part-time staff within the McMaster Students Union will come into effect.

MSU Audited Statements for fiscal year 2016-2017

The 2016/2017 audit reflects an MSU that is in a healthy fiscal state. There is a sturdy reserve in the operating fund. The MSU’s operating fund produced a surplus of $115 000, which represents 4% of the operating budget. Across the entire organization, including the operating fund, along with the health & dental funds, the MSU produced a surplus of $805,981 for the year. This number translates to 6% of the overall budget.
