Bridges Café is an award-winning, meat-free food service establishment and inclusive space operated as a joint venture by McMaster Students Union (MSU) Diversity Services and McMaster Hospitality Services. The space can be booked for events by campus groups to host meetings, coffeehouses, and performances with the purpose of promoting inclusion and diversity. This year, Bridges introduced a new, streamlined booking process, which will make scheduling easier for event organizers.
Starting September 8th, Bridges can be booked from 8:00pm-11:00pm every evening. The required booking form, as well as a calendar displaying the dates that have yet to be booked, can be found online via the Diversity Services webpage. An event organizer who wishes to book the space must do so at least one month in advance. Booking is free of charge.
"Bridges is open for booking for another year. I am excited to see what kinds of new learning, performances, and collaborations take place in Bridges Cafe. The new booking method is the beginning of making Bridges easier for student groups to book, use, and enjoy the space,” said Dana Swarbrick, Bridges Coordinator. “The next time you enter, look up and notice the bridges that cross the ceiling of this establishment as if they were connecting the four pillars of diversity services: multiculturalism, interfaith, abilities, and indigenous affairs."
Some adio equipment is available for no cost. If larger audio requirements are part of a Bridges booking then Avtek, the MSU Audio-Visual and live production company, can be booked to produce more technically involved events. A new sound board and speakers installed in the summer of 2014 has reduced, and in many cases eliminated, costs associated with running events that would previously have required Avtek.
