Through OneMatch, Canadian Blood Services also coordinates the collection and delivery of stem cells in Canada and works with registries worldwide to help patients access the stem cell transplants they need. Fewer than 25% of patients who need stem cell transplants are able to find a match within their own families, leaving almost 1000 patients currently waiting for an unrelated match. There is a special need for diverse male donors aged 17 to 35, in good health and willing to donate to any patient in need.
"SHEC encourages the McMaster community to help support the well-being of all," said Lily Park, Promotions Chair for the MSU Student Health Education Centre (SHEC). "If you're eligible to donate, consider doing so through blood donor clinics and OneMatch and give what's in you to give."
