MSU Peer Support Line open 7:00pm-1:00am every night

The MSU Peer Support Line (PSL) is a confidential phone line that any McMaster student may call to discuss personal and mental health challenges. This MSU service operates 7 days a week, from 7:00pm-1:00am. The line is staffed by Peer Listeners, who are student volunteers trained to provide emotional support and information regarding on-campus or off-campus resources. Anyone is welcome to use the service by calling 905-525-9140 ext. 28888.
Confidentiality is PSL’s top priority. Peer Listeners do not use call display and do not ask callers for personal information, unless they have reason to be concerned for the caller’s safety or the safety of others. Any information shared on the line will remain with PSL and professional affiliates with equally strict confidentiality policies.
PSL also offers Peer Support OnLine, an online text-based chat service staffed by trained peer listeners (based on availability). Each conversation is completely confidential, unless the peer listener deems the student seeking help, or someone else, to be at risk of harm. Users of the service are also asked to uphold confidentiality by not sharing conversations publicly. Peer Support OnLine operates on the same hours as the PSL phone line.
PSL also maintains a list of resources on its webpage. Students in crisis are urged to contact McMaster Security Services, at 905-525-9140 ext. 88 or 905-522-4135; the 24-hour Hamilton Crisis Line (COAST), at 905-972-8338; or local emergency services.
