The five awards that are presented every year are:

The Honour M Award is the highest award that the MSU bestows. The Honour M Award recognizes outstanding leadership, volunteer service, contribution and/or special achievement in extra-curricular activities.

The Rudy Heinzl Award of Excellence is awarded inrecognition of an outstanding one-year achievement, which improves the lives of students at McMaster University.

The MSU Merit Scholarship Award is presented in recognition of outstanding and valuable service to university, student, or residence governments, departments, clubs, societies, charities, or athletics.

The J. Lynn Watson Award for Community Service is presented by the McMaster Students Union and the Inter-Residence Council. It recognizes the campus group that has made the greatest one-year contribution to charitable giving.

The MSU Spirit Award is presented to the campus group that has demonstrated superior spirit. The Selection Committee will consider those campus groups that best represent enthusiasm, participation, dedication, and increasing school spirit at McMaster University.

“There is so much amazing work done by each and every part of the MSU, but unfortunately, not all of it is seen. MSU Awards, among the other awards and recognition throughout the night, are how we can say thank you to the people of our organization,” says Genya Oparin, MSU Speaker. Student recognition night is an occasion for us to celebrate the successes of the MSU, but more importantly to celebrate the people behind those successes!”

All awards are presented at the annual Student Recognition Night, which celebrates the hard work and dedication provided by students and student groups to improve the lives and experiences of McMaster undergrads.
