Spring Valedictorian nominations open until March 24

February 27, 2017 at 10:00 am

Every year, the McMaster Students Union (MSU) recognizes outstanding graduating students in each faculty with the Valedictorian Awards. Each valedictorian gives an address at their respective convocation. The nomination period opens February 27 and closes March 24 at 4:30pm. All relevant information, including the nomination package, is available via msumcmaster.ca/valedictorian.

The nomination period opens on Monday, February 27, whereupon information packages will be available from the front desk of the MSU office (MUSC 201), as well as from the MSU website via msumcmaster.ca/valedictorian. Candidates will have until 4:30pm on Friday, March 24 to submit their nomination packages to their respective faculty or program offices. Successful applicants will subsequently be contacted to present a draft version of their valedictorian address to the selection committee during the month of April.

Candidates for the Valedictorian Award must have a cumulative average of at least 7.0. Valedictorians are selected from each faculty, though Arts & Science and Humanities are grouped together, as are Nursing and Medical Radiation Sciences. Two valedictorians are selected from each of Science, Social Sciences, and Engineering.

The application process requires that candidates solicit nominations from several members of the McMaster community. A primary nominator may be any graduating undergraduate student who is convocating in spring 2017. Eligible secondary nominators include graduating undergraduate students registered in the same faculty as the candidate, as well as Deans, Associate Deans, or faculty members. More details on nominator eligibility are available in the nomination package.

All eligible graduating students are encouraged to apply. For any questions, please visit the MSU main office (MUSC 201), or contact:
