Shinerama at McMaster has thus far raised an outstanding $106,540 for cystic fibrosis research and care. Currently, McMaster is the top online fundraiser in the country. Shinerama is the largest post-secondary fundraiser across Canada, involving students from over 60 university and college campuses.
Throughout Welcome Week, Shinerama volunteers, faculty and residence representatives from McMaster raised money for the campaign. On Shine Day, first-year students and upper-year volunteers went across Hamilton to fundraise, supported by community members who generously donated towards Shinerama and assisted with the campaign.
In the coming weeks, the Shinerama team at McMaster will continue to count donations. A final bottle drive is planned to take place in early October after McMaster Homecoming. Additionally, Shinerama has partnered with Student Life Network for the Canada’s Luckiest Student draw featuring a prize worth $100,000. For every student who enters the draw through the McMaster link, Student Life Network is donating $1 towards the McMaster Shinerama campaign. To enter the contest, click here.
The goal of Shinerama is to raise money and generate awareness for cystic fibrosis, the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Approximately one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has cystic fibrosis. As of now, there is no cure. For every year of the Shinerama campaign, the median age of survival for someone with cystic fibrosis increases by approximately 10 months.
