Mac Farmstand hosts 3rd Annual Local Food Fest

September 25, 2017 at 10:00 am

On Wednesday, September 27, Mac Farmstand will host Local Food Fest, an outdoors event in Mills Plaza from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, targeted at promoting the importance of local food to the McMaster community. The vendors, activities and McMaster services and clubs present aim to foster a connection between attendees and the local food system that surrounds them.

At Local Food Fest, one can expect local food exhibitors, interactive activities and games, along with live music and pumpkin carving. There will also be an abundance of samples for students to try, including roasted corn and apple cider, and a taste test where one can try and tell the difference between local and non-local jam. Throughout the day, there will be various opportunities to win prizes, such as baked good and t-shirts.

Shailee Siddhpuria, Mac Farmstand Director, believes this event is a great opportunity for students to learn about sustainable eating and the people that make up Hamilton’s food community.

“Our third annual Local Food Fest aims to promote the benefits and availability of local food by connecting the McMaster community with groups that champion a rich and bountiful local food network,” said Siddhpuria. “Through engagement in a fun-filled environment, Mac Farmstand’s Local Food Fest hopes to encourage and educate students on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle”.
