The 2020 MSU Presidential Election & HSR Referendum

The campaign period for the 2020 MSU Presidential Election has officially begun, lasting until January 30, 2020. The MSU Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) Bus Pass Referendum is happening concurrently with the MSU Presidential Election. Online voting for both the election and referendum will take place online from January 28 - 30, 2020, closing on 5PM on the last day.

Proclamation of the 2020 MSU Presidential Election + HSR Bus Pass Referendum

The nomination period for the MSU Presidential Election is open from December 2, 2019 to January 15, 2020 at 5 PM.  All MSU members (students enrolled in 18 or more units) are able to nominate themselves for the position. The President serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and acts as the chief spokesperson of the MSU. Nominatons for those who whish to campaign for or against the HSR bus pass referendum are due by January 17.

The McMaster Students Union (MSU) manages approximately three dozen student-oriented services, while simultaneously providing political representation on behalf of undergraduate students, to all levels of government. However, many aspects of what the MSU offers are now financially optional via Mosaic from 12 - 20, due to the Student Choice Initiative introduced by the Government of Ontario. This change may lead to the elimination of services and the loss of advocacy efforts provided to support McMaster undergraduate students.

MSU condemns sexual violence, commits to systematic review of the Maroons department and the MSU as a whole.

While continuing to work with the University’s Sexual Violence Response Coordinator, as well as experts within the Office of Equity and Inclusion, you have my pledge that the MSU will source and hire an independent consultant to review all polices, practices, and structures related to the Maroons - as well as the organization as a whole - in regards to sexual violence response and prevention.

MSU General Assembly on March 20 in Burridge Gym

This year, the annual MSU General Assembly (GA) will be held on March 20 in Burridge Gym from 4 - 7 PM. Registration will open at 3:15 PM in the mezzanine above the gym, with entry via the IWC hallway. MSU members are welcome to attend with their student card.
