Proclamation of the 2018 MSU Presidential Election and Referenda

The nomination period for the MSU Presidential Election is now open, ending January 11, 2018 at 5:00 PM. All MSU members are able to nominate themselves for the position. Nominees must use the Presidential Election Nomination form, which requires 15 signatures of MSU members, and submit the form to the MSU Main Office (MUSC 201) by the deadline on January 11. Forms can be found at msumcmaster.ca/elections or in hard copy inside the MSU Main Office. The campaigning period will occur from January 14, 2018 until January 25, 2018. Online voting will take place during the final three days from January 23-25, closing on 5PM on the last day.
The President serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and chief spokesperson of the MSU. They are elected annually during an at-large election for a one-year term by full-time McMaster undergraduates, as outlined by the procedures in the MSU Constitution and Bylaw 10. The elected candidate will hold office from May 1 until April 30 of the following year. During their time in office, the President is a voting member of the Student Representative Assembly, the Executive Board, as well as an ex-officio member of all other MSU committees. Moreover, the President represents the MSU to the University, Hamilton community, in addition to local, provincial, and national governments and organizations.
Referenda run concurrently to MSU Presidential elections. During a referendum, full-time undergraduate students are asked to vote on a topic pertaining to student life, services or fees. More information on any potential 2018 referenda questions will be available in advance of the Presidential campaign in January.
