Part-time wage grid changes effective January 2018

December 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm

As of January 1, 2018 a new wage grid for part-time staff within the McMaster Students Union will come into effect.

Recently, the Ontario legislature passed the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, which included an increase to Ontario’s General minimum wage to $14 per hour in 2018, with another increase to $15 per hour in 2019. More information can be found here.

The MSU grid has been updated to comply with provincial legislation. In addition, the MSU will continue its policy of paying staff above minimum wage. The new base hourly rate (class A), will be $14.15, 15-cents above the new minimum rate of pay. Also, to recognize the continued efforts of returning employees, the 20-cent year-over-year incentive for employees who return to a previous role within the MSU will remain in place.
