Located within TwelvEighty just down the steps from Union Market, the Grind café offers a range of sweet and savoury crêpes and the best premium coffee on campus. Designed with affordability and value in mind, the Grind offers most of its crêpes under $7, and almost all drinks below $3. Popular items include the Hazelnut & Banana crêpe and the Grilled Veg & Goat Cheese crêpe, along with the freshly ground, handcrafted cappuccino and latte. In addition, the perimeter seating inside The Grind was designed with connectivity in mind. USB and AC outlets are offered all around the space. The seating, décor and atmosphere are unique to campus and combine to offer a fantastic new space to grab a great coffee while studying.
Daniel Tuba D’Souza, Vice President (Finance), highlights the role of the café in addressing student needs on campus.
“The idea for the newly opened Grind café came from trying to address two current issues: the availability of affordable food on campus, combined with the lack of available study and lounge space,” said D’Souza. “Given the quality of the food, the great value at which it is presented, and the atmosphere therein, I am certain the Grind will impress.”
There was multiple stages of student consultation leading up to the opening of the café to ensure it would be a space the McMaster community would enjoy. Most recently, students provided feedback during the training period, which was used to assess affordable price points for the coffee and crêpe options on the menu.
