Walk with SWHAT during the Walkathon this March for Hamilton Food Share
March 6, 2018 at 12:00 pm
The MSU Student Walk Home Attendant Team (SWHAT) is excited to be supporting Hamilton Food Share for their Walk-a-thon this March. Students can support SWHAT and Hamilton Food Share by getting a walk from SWHAT volunteers all through the month of March. One dollar will be donated for every walk throughout the month.
Hamilton Food Share is a Hamilton organization that works to address food insecurity within the local community. Throughout 2016-17, Hamilton Food Share raised and distributed over 2.7 million pounds of food for the surrounding community. For every $1 donated, $5 worth of food is given to those experiencing hunger in Hamilton.
“I hope that many students come by the SWHAT office to get a walk during the Walk-a-thon - not only is $1 donated for each walk we get, but it is also a wonderful chance to meet our lovely volunteers and get to know someone new on campus,” said Carly Van Egdom, SWHAT Coordinator.
SWHAT is open 7pm-1am every day in March, and is located in MUSC 234. SWHAT is a volunteer service within the MSU that will walk or bus with students during the evening hours 7 days a week. Regardless of the weather, SWHAT walkers will walk to destinations on and surrounding campus if requested, providing safety and company. Students who request a walk will be joined by a male and a female walker who are equipped with a flashlight and radio to allow for communication with the SWHAT office and McMaster Security as required.
