The HSR Bus Pass PRESTO card 2018-2019: important information & updates

August 21, 2018 at 12:00 pm

The PRESTO card issued to students in 2017-2018 is to be used to load the 2018-2019 HSR Bus Pass. New students can pick up their HSR Bus Pass PRESTO card with current MAC ID in the Campus Store starting on August 20.

The HSR bus pass is a PRESTO card that gives full-time undergraduate and graduate students unlimited access to the HSR bus system from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019. Both the PRESTO card and a McMaster student card must be presented to an operator to board the HSR transit system. The bus pass is issued by the McMaster Students Union (MSU), the Graduate Student Association (GSA), the Campus Store, and the HSR.

New students or eligible students who did not pick up a PRESTO card last year can pick up their free PRESTO cards at any register within the Main Campus Store (Gilmour Hall B101) starting August 20 with a current McMaster student ID. Additionally, students enrolled in the Faculty of Health Sciences may visit the Health Sciences Campus Store to receive their HSR Bus Pass PRESTO card.

To load the PRESTO card with this year’s HSR Bus Pass, students can log onto their Mosaic account and access the voucher code by clicking on the "HSR Bus Pass" icon. Next, go to to register and/or redeem the voucher code. Please note that once loaded, the voucher may take up to 24 hours to be processed. It is strongly recommended to register your new HSR Bus Pass PRESTO card. For a full video explaining this process for new and old PRESTO users, see below.

Watch the step-by-step video to load the HSR Bus Pass onto your PRESTO card:

Although classes do not begin until Tuesday, September 4, the Campus Store will be open every day from Monday, August 20 until Saturday, September 1. The Campus Store will be closed on the Sunday, September 2 and Monday, September 3 of the Labour Day long weekend. Students new to McMaster and without a previous HSR Bus Pass PRESTO card should not tap on to the HSR before September 1, 2018. Between August 23 – 31, students only need to show their Student ID to the bus operator to board the bus. Tapping the card on the HSR with a new PRESTO card prior to September 1 will result in a negative balance on the student’s PRESTO account. If students do not tap onto an HSR bus within 45 days of loading their voucher, PRESTO will need to be contacted in order for the voucher to be reinstated.
