Walk with SWHAT during the November Walk-a-thon for SACHA

November 8, 2018 at 12:00 pm

The MSU Student Walk Home Attendant Team (SWHAT) is proudly supporting SACHA during their biannual Walk-a-thon during the month of November. Students can support both SWHAT and SACHA by getting a walk from SWHAT volunteers this month, as one dollar will be donated to SACHA for every walk during November.

SACHA is a feminist, non-profit, community-based organization in Hamilton that works to support those who have experienced sexualized violence. Through education, advocacy, activism and partnerships within the community, SACHA strives to end violence and oppression. Their programs include a 24-hour support Line, counselling and advocacy, diverse communities outreach, and public education. To learn more about the centre and its services, visit sacha.ca. Other resources available for survivors include Women and Gender Equity Network, McMaster Student Wellness Centre, and the Good2Talk Confidential Helpline: 1-866-925-5454.

Students can request a walk anytime from 7 PM - 1 AM, seven days a week. Walks can be requested by calling (905) 525 9140 ext. 27500, visiting the SWHAT office in MUSC 234, or by filling out an online walk form at msumcmaster.ca/swhat.

SWHAT is a volunteer service within the MSU that will walk or bus with students during the evening hours, every day of the week. Regardless of the weather, SWHAT walkers will walk to destinations on and surrounding campus if requested, providing safety and company. Students who request a walk will be joined by a male and a female identifying walker who are equipped with a flashlight and radio to allow for communication with the SWHAT office and McMaster Security, as required.
