The MSU Student Walk Home Attendant Team (SWHAT) is excited to be supporting Neighbour to Neighbour Centre for their Walk-a-thon this March. Students can support SWHAT and Neighbour to Neighbour by getting a walk from SWHAT volunteers this March, as one dollar will be donated for every walk throughout the month.
Neighbour to Neighbour Centre has provided assistance to Hamiltonians for over 30 years, offering services such as their emergency food bank and educational supports, working to alleviate the burden of poverty in Hamilton through preventative measures. Every dollar raised towards Neighbour to Neighbour is turned into $9 worth of food.
“Not only is $1 donated towards a local organization doing amazing work, getting a walk SWHAT is also a great opportunity to meet someone new at Mac,” says Sowmya Karthikeyan, SWHAT Coordinator. “As a way to appreciate all the students who consistently trust our volunteers, we have set up a raffle in which students are able to win some SWHAT swag, so please come get a walk!”
SWHAT is open 7 PM - 1 AM every day in March, and is located in MUSC 234. SWHAT is a volunteer service within the MSU that will walk or bus with students during the evening hours 7 days a week. Regardless of the weather, SWHAT walkers will walk to destinations on and surrounding campus if requested, providing safety and company. Students who request a walk will be joined by a male and a female walker who are equipped with a flashlight and radio to allow for communication with the SWHAT office and McMaster Security as required.
