De-stressors, events, and hours during exam season

Chaplaincy Centre and McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC)
Students are welcome to book a study room anytime between 8:30 AM to midnight from Monday - Friday, and on Sunday from 5 PM to midnight during the exam season. In order to book a room, students have to follow the usual procedure for booking out rooms for study groups which can be found at: http://muscmcmaster.ca/study-groups/.
In addition, the Chaplaincy Centre is hosting the Exam Drop-in Centre, running from April 11 - 17 (excluding Saturday, April 13) and from April 22 - 26 from 5:30 PM - 9 PM in MUSC 230. There will be free hot beverages and cookies offered throughout the evenings as a chance for students to take a break during study periods. Students are encouraged to bring their own travel mugs to reduce waste. Everyone is welcome to drop by.
From April 10 - 12, SHEC is collaborating with MSU SWHAT and the McMaster Student Wellness Centre to give out exam care packages in central locations around campus. The giveaways will take place from 1 PM to 3 PM in:
- Mills Library and Institute for Applied Health Sciences lobbies on Wednesday, April 10
- Thode Library and Mills Library lobbies on Thursday, April 11
- Health Sciences Library, McMaster University Student Centre, and Innis Library lobbies on Friday, April 12
One of the #SHECares packages will include a golden ticket inside that can be redeemed to win an Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker.
Maccess and SAS Transition are hosting a de-stressor event with self-care packages to help students get through the exam season. The event is on April 10 from 2 PM - 4 PM in MUSC 318 for essential oils and MUSC 303 for a scent-free space and quiet room.
David Braley Athletic Centre
Free exam stress relief yoga is being offered from April 14 - April 25 in the Mindfulness Centre within DBAC. The classes are drop in - no pre registration is required, but space is limited. The classes are for McMaster students, staff, faulty, and members only. For a full list of dates and times, click here.
Mills, Thode and Innis are offering a range of activities and extended hours. There are all-in-one desk bikes for students to study and move at the same time and Muse brain-sensing headbands available for sign out that provide a unique, interactive meditating experience. In addition, libraries are offering free apples and granola bars to students, available on a first come, first served basis. Headphones can also be borrowed with a library card.
Innis is open from 8:30 AM until 1:45 AM, Monday through Thursday from April 9 - 25. On Friday, Innis is open from 8:30 AM - 10:45 PM. On Saturday, the hours are 10:30 AM - 5:45 PM. On Sunday, the hours are 1:00 PM - 7:45 PM. Silent late-night study takes place starting April 8, Monday to Thursday from 10:00 PM - 1:45 AM.
Innis has a De-Stress Zone, featuring colouring materials, puzzles, word searches, and crosswords. Students can also sign out a game or energy light therapy lamp at the desk and try out the exercise/desk bikes. Those who complete the Innis Library word search can submit it to their ballot box for the chance to win a prize pack.
Mills Library is open from 8 AM - 10:45 PM, Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM - 10:45 PM on Saturday, and 12 PM - 10:45 PM on Sunday from April 9 - 25, with special hours on April 19 from 9:00 AM - 4:45 PM. The Learning Commons is open 24/7 until the end of exams.
The Connections Centre is a quiet study space available in Mills Library during exams on the 1st floor, open until the end of the exams. There is also quiet study on the 3rd, 4th, and 6th floor.
There are board games, puzzles, and sports equipment (such as a soccer ball, football, frisbee, and skipping ropes) available for sign out at the service desk, as well as a light therapy lamp available for circulation.
Students can de-stress in Lyons New Media’s new “Zen Zone,” a quiet space where for relaxation during the exam period, or any time throughout the term. There are magazines, books, puzzles, word searches, crosswords, games and cards, as well as supplies for colouring, knitting and origami. Alternatively, students can sign out and enjoy virtual reality glasses and robots.
Thode is open 24/7 from April 7 - 28. Silent study is available on the lower level.
For a studying break, students can relax in the Thode Meditation Station, grab some earplugs and tune out, or borrow a Muse headband to tune out with help from technology. Students can enjoy a virtual fireplace, take part in a puzzle challenge, or play board games.

Health Sciences has the following regular hours during exam season:
Monday - Thursday: 8 AM - 10:45 PM
Friday: 8AM - 9:45PM
Saturday: 10 AM - 5:45 PM|
Sunday: 10 AM - 10:45 PM
Special hours are:
April 19: 9 AM - 5 PM
April 29 - 30: AM - 9:45 PM
There are also puzzles available around the library for students to work on and complete as a break from studying.
