UPDATE: Systematic review of Maroons and MSU policies and procedures relating to sexual violence and response
April 10, 2019 at 09:00 am
On March 29, MSU President Ikram Farah committed to a hiring an independent consultant to review all polices, practices, and procedures related to the Maroons, as well as the wider organization, in regards to sexual violence response and prevention.
To that effect, the MSU has hired HRProactive to conduct a formal investigation. The company has over 22 years of experience in the areas of workplace audits, reviews, investigations, and training. The MSU will apply the recommendations of the audit to its Workplace Policy on Harassment, Discrimination and Sexual Violence. In addition, the investigation will advise on aspects of service delivery by the MSU Maroons. Recommendations will become part of future recruitment, training, delivery, and management of the service.
Any individual who wishes to participate in the process is welcome to do so. Participation may include but will not be limited to such actions as providing in-person statements, completing a questionnaire, or providing email correspondence to the consultants. Specific details about how students, volunteers and/or community stakeholders can engage with the process, will become available in the near future.
The MSU is coordinating the onboarding process with HR Proactive this week. The systemic review of both the Maroons and the MSU will commence immediately, with no scheduled completion timeline. The process will be led by HRProactive. It will conclude at the discretion of the firm and its experts, once they have completed both the departmental and organizational audit.
