UPDATE: Systematic review of Maroons and MSU policies and procedures relating to sexual violence and response
April 17, 2019 at 12:00 pm
The systematic review of the policies, practices, and procedures of the Maroons, as well as the MSU as a whole as they relate to sexual violence and response, will be led by Karen Bridgman-Acker of HRProactive. Karen has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Sociology, a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from McMaster University. Karen is an expert in workplace harassment and human rights investigations, workplace violence risk assessments, and assists organizations by completing investigations and/or file reviews to help improve services. The recommendations stemming from Karen’s audit will become part of future recruitment, training, delivery, and management of the Maroons, as well as policies and practices throughout the entirety of the MSU, including the Workplace Policy on Harassment, Discrimination, and Sexual Violence.
All are welcome to participate in the review. There are numerous avenues available to do so. Karen will be on campus to meet with any student, staff, volunteer, or University stakeholder who wishes to give input, share concerns, or otherwise provide information about the Maroons or the MSU in general. Karen will be available in-person at McMaster University at the following times:
- Tuesday, April 23: 2:00pm – 5:00pm
- Wednesday, April 24: 10:00am – 3:00pm
To ensure confidentiality during this process, the coordination of meeting times and locations will be conducted directly through Karen. To arrange a time to meet, please email email@example.com or phone (905) 483-7876. All participation will be anonymous. Recommendations gathered as a result of interviews will not include names of individuals and will be aggregate in nature.
Additionally, if someone is unable or unwilling to attend an in-person, on-campus meeting during the times listed above, Karen will schedule individual meetings at other times, as well as at different locations within the Hamilton area. Again, the coordination of meeting times and locations will be through Karen directly. Alternatively, if someone wishes to share information, but does not wish to participate in an interview, information can be provided directly to Karen via firstname.lastname@example.org or phone (905) 483-7876.
For interview scheduling purposes, individuals are kindly asked to connect with Karen by 5pm on Monday, April 22. It should be noted that Monday, April 22 is not a deadline to participate. For scheduling purposes, it is recommended to connect with Karen by April 22 to help ensure everyone who wishes to participate in an interview can be accommodated and scheduled appropriately. There is no scheduled completion timeline for the review. It will conclude at the discretion of the investigator, following a complete departmental and organizational audit.
