Volunteering as a Peer Listener
Applications for Peer Listener positions is now closed. Please check our website next September for listener volunteer positions!
Volunteer shifts typically from 7pm-10pm and 10pm-1am, on all weeknights and weekends. However, for the month of November and March, the Peer Support Line will be open until 2am (an extension of our typical hours). Each shift has at least 2 listeners present. Scheduling is flexible, and we accommodate our listeners' other commitments to the best of our ability.
Volunteer listeners are expected to dedicate 6 hours a week to shifts, answering either calls or online chats. We expect volunteers to be able to take at least two weekend shift per month. There are also additional debriefs and ongoing training/skills assessments as needed throughout the year.
Applying to be a Listener
Applications for listener positions are NOW LIVE, and will be open until September 10th 11:59 PM. The process includes a written application, which will be available on www.msumcmaster.ca/jobs or here, along with a detailed job description. If selected, the candidate will then be invited for an interview, which includes traditional questions in addition to short scenarios.
