Other Canadian Red Cross courses not listed (e.g. First Responder, Emergency Medical Responder, Babysitter) can be made upon request. Please contact the Assistant Director at efr​tasst@msu.mcmaster.ca. Please note that none of the normally scheduled courses include manuals, as an online manual will become available upon culmination of the course.

All certifications last for 3 years except the CPR-BLS certification (which lasts 1 year), and all courses are certified by the Red Cross.

CPR Level A: CPR and choking procedures for an adult.

CPR Level C: CPR and choking procedures for an adult, child, and baby.

CPR/AED (BLS)

A skills-focused professional resuscitation course, not a first-aid based CPR course. Includes legal issues surrounding resuscitation, head-tilt/chin-lift, jaw thrust, simultaneous breathing and circulation assessments, agonal respirations, choking skills, CPR (adult, child, and infant), six rights of medication, AED skills, and other special considerations for Basic Life Support. Please note that this course should be used in conjunction with a medical protocol. Requires recertification 1/year.

Material includes the content of the Emergency First Aid course, such as recognizing and responding to cardiovascular emergencies, CPR, choking, airway and breathing emergencies, assisting with medications, and prevention of disease transmission. Additionally, Standard First Aid includes sudden medical emergencies, injuries to the head, neck, or spine, environmental emergencies, and poisons. Certification lasts for 3 years.
