Pride Community Centre (PCC)

Our Mission:

The Pride Community Centre is a service of the McMaster Students Union. We provide a contact point for McMaster students that may identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or any of the other diverse identities that make up our community. We offer educational programming and access to resources of interest, as well as peer support and a physical space for students to meet and socialize with each other. As advocates for gender & sexual diversity, the PCC’s mandate upholds that 2SLGBTQ+ students are entitled to a safe and supportive campus, absent of homophobia and transphobia, where the expression of one’s gender & sexual identity is welcomed and respected.

The Centre is a student-run service provided by the MSU that aims to challenge oppressive social attitudes and norms, patriarchy, homo/trans/bi/lesbophobia, and the like, at the systemic level.

If you identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ and are passionate about 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy, striving for equity and inclusion by challenging dominant views and promoting education and awareness, then please consider applying for one of these amazing roles! We especially encourage applications from marginalized folks including 2SLGBTQIA+ BIPoC and disabled folks.

Although the fall semester is online, the PCC is still offering online peer support and community groups! We are looking to hire for both our peer support role, as well as our new events and advocacy volunteer role! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the PCC Coordinator, Christian at pride@msu.mcmaster.ca or our Volunteer and Training Coordinator, Dixon at pridevolunteertraining@msu.mcmaster.ca!

Peer Support Volunteer:

Events and Advocacy Volunteer:

We Operate Through Three Main Pillars:

1.) Peer Support

We offer confidential, in-person peer support to 2SLGBTQIA+ and questioning students in our safe(r) space in MUSC 221. Our unique space setup offers two separate entrances, one of which is the entrance to our community centre via MUSC 221. Our private entrance offers a quiet space for confidential peer support or quiet study offering students the ability to access our space without fear of being seen.

2.) Advocacy

We advocate for queer, trans and two-spirited folks through the delivery of monthly campaigns and events which aim to empower 2SLGBTQIA+ students and create a culture of awareness towards issues faced by the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This includes running our week-long campaigns: Mac Pride Week, Pride History Week and Trans Week.

3.) Education and Awareness

We provide 2SLGBTQIA+ Competency Training which can be requested by any MSU club, service or student group at McMaster. Through this initiative, we strive to increase awareness, knowledge and education of students on McMaster’s campus to help other student groups create inclusive spaces.
